VR studio Archiact is closing down. In a statement posted to LinkedIn , the Canadian studio said it informed all staff yesterday, August 12, that it will "close in two weeks." Archiact was formed in 2013 and positioned itself as a "pioneer in VR", "dedicated to the development of immersive reality games," including Doom 3: VR Edition, Journey to Foundation, Marvel Dimension of Heroes, and Evasion.

German games spending dips 6% in H1 2024 to €4.3bn

It's a lot easier to get hired back (as a contractor or not) with a former employer with which you have a good and established relationship. The contractor already knows the dev team, already knows the kind of games they make, already has experience with the franchise, pipeline, tools, and workflow so there's very little ramp-up time. If the cost of contracting the leader's company for the work is reasonable and within the game's budget, there's little to be lost by hiring them on.
