Godot aims for mainstream

Edit: This was of course a joke for April Fools' Day 2016. Stay tuned for some real news though, as an asset sharing platform is being worked on for Godot 2.1. After attending this year's GDC , we realized that Godot, though a good engine that we believe ready for the industry, is still hardly known by professional game developers. The most important feedback we got is that Godot is different from the most popular game engines, and thus confusing.

Godot at GDC 2016, aftermath

What is that? GDC (or Game Developer's Conference) is an event hosted every year in San Francisco at some point in March. The point of GDC is to reunite as much as possible of the video game develoment industry in a single week. The event is used for conferences (educational mostly), business, mixers, award ceremonies (IGF), technology showcases and partying hard with fellow developers.

The Witness

The Witness is a very pretty island with hundreds of puzzles on iPad things. Some of those puzzles are brilliant, most are decent, many are repetitious or boring, some are aggressively irritating. Luckily none of the good ones are locked off by bad ones. That’s my review, I’m mostly making this post to put up all the best screenshots I took.

Updates on the release cycle – and Godot 2.0.1

The stable release of Godot 2.0 was nine months in the making and brought a great deal of new features and bug fixes alike. Some of our users had been testing the alpha and beta versions, but others had decided to stay on the stable 1.1 version and thus had to wait quite a long time for bug fixes. We therefore decided two important things for our release cycle: Shorter release cycle.

Sirlin on Game Design, Ep 15: Heroes of the Storm

We discuss the design of Heroes of the Storm. It's a bold entry in the MOBA genre and impresses us greatly. We cover the many things is does differently than the rest of the genre that we view as improvements. No last hits, no deny, shared XP, talent system, 20 minute game length, map variety, and more. Sirlin then complains about a couple annoying things about controlling your character.
