A jury has ruled that Activision Blizzard will pay tech incubator Acceleration Bay $23.4 million for patent infringement. As reported by Law.com , the May 3 ruling comes after the incubator began its legal action back in 2015. The case filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware claims that patents for networking and broadcasting were used in Activision's multiplayer title.

Brazil has officially adopted a new law redefining video games in the country and establishing guidelines to guarantee and regulate its industry's future growth. The bill was approved on May 3 by Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after two years of debates and lobbying from games trade body Abragames, regional associations, and studios in the country.

Microsoft is shutting down four of the studios it picked up as part of the 2020 Bethesda acquisition, as reported by IGN. The four studios include Arkane Austin, maker of last year's disappointing Redfall , and Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and The Evil Within. Beyond that pair, Mighty Doom developer Alpha Dog Studios and Human Head Software successor Roundhouse Games are also shutting down.

Nintendo has released its latest financial results, showing a strong year in terms of net sales and profits thanks to the success of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros Wonder and The Super Mario Bros Movie. For the full year ended March 31, 2024, the platform holder reported net sales rose 4.4% to ¥1.7 trillion ($11 billion) and gross profit up 7.8% to ¥954.3 billion ($6.2 billion).

Remedy has announced the cancellation of its multiplayer title codenamed Kestrel in order to focus on its existing franchises. In a post on its website , Remedy said the title was at its "early concept stage," supported by a small team. The developers will be assigned to other projects at the studio, and Remedy also reduced its recruitment and funding needs as a result.

Electronic Arts today released its earnings report for Q4 FY24 (the three months ended March 31, 2024), showing sales down during a quiet fourth quarter even as the bottom line improved year-over-year. For the full year, EA's top-line numbers were up modestly while the bottom line improved more significantly. Electronic Arts revenues and bookings were down in the fourth quarter, with some of the decline attributable to an empty release slate.
