Two years ago: left Unity

The Astronauts

I left Unity at start of 2022. So for this lazy Tuesday afternoon, figured I can share the rambles I wrote in my goodbye email. No big insights there, just old man reminiscing. And hey the text is already written, so that makes it easy to copy-pasta it into the blog: It’s now exactly 16 years of me working at Unity. And as everyone knows, if you don’t leave after 16 years, you have to wait until 32 years for your next chance (look, I don’t make the rules).

Where to find EJS includes?

hello! not sure if this question is answerable but I wanted to ask how are devs treated/paid when they work on DLC that is released for free vs DLC that has a pricetag. I noticed that the new God of War will has a free DLC which made me happy as a fan but it also made me wonder if that was made possible at the expense of the devs who are working on this game. Thank you if you answer this!

Ask a Game Dev

There's no special difference behind the scenes between developing free and paid DLC. My salary and compensation doesn't change depending on the kind of content I work on. All DLC development pulls from the same "ongoing development for the game" budget, be it free or paid. Paid content funds the ongoing development and free content is created primarily for player retention.

Any ways to preview project in "web-mobile" mode instead of "web-desktop" through PC web?

As the title suggests, my requirement is to preview the project in a mode similar to the published web-mobile version, which resizes the canvas when the window is resized. I attempted to customize the preview template using index.ejs. However, it is only designed to add things. Hi, I’m trying to create a common module for my multiple projects, so I can share assets between them (prefabs, code, media…). As suggested by cocos devs on other posts, I’m trying to achieve this by creating a new extension and mounting a shared assets folder following the documentation on “Extending the Database (DB)”. I’ve added the assets folder with readonly=false, so I can drag and drop assets between the current project and the common extension. package.json: "contributions": { "asset-db"

Mask with sprite stencil and custom material?

Cocos

I’m attempting to make a UI mask with a sprite stencil. I have a shader that I’ve made that essentially takes the sprite and adds a glitchy effect to it… (like a static glitch on a hologram display) It works great with sprites and does exactly what I want it to do. It does a great job taking the edges of a sprite and distorting them a little bit in an animated way.
