Add transparency support for LightmapGI Currently when baking lightmaps users have to choose between transparent objects casting shadows as if they were fully opaque, or not casting shadows at all. This has been a major limitation in both the quality of lightmap baking and the ergonomics of the lightmap baking workflow.
Most scenes bake in seconds instead of minutes or hours. branch uses state of the art algorithms to ensure the maximum possible quality: Bakes geometry to lightmap coordinates using the actual rendering code, so any existing shader or material works. Allows baking dynamic and static lights. Features of the new Godot 4.0
Navigation: Fix for navmesh baking when parsing StaticBody colliders ( GH-70904 ). Rendering: Fix multiple issues that make the normal roughness texture unusable ( GH-71130 ). Import: Add vertex color support to OBJ importer ( GH-71033 ). Navigation: Add NavigationServer performance monitor ( GH-70731 ).
Techniques such as using lower-resolution textures, controlling particle spawn rates, and optimizing the lifespan of particles can significantly reduce the load on the GPU. Efficient Use of TexturesTextures are a significant component of mobile game visuals, but high-resolution textures can quickly consume memory and processing power.
Today, Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) is available in Early Access, delivering the next-generation engine from Epic Games that will further propel the industry forward. Enabling this vision were RTX GPUs with dedicated cores for ray tracing and AI, as well as new hardware capabilities for increased geometric detail and texture streaming.
Notably, Windows users could experience crashes when baking lightmaps. Games exported with a ZIP data package could also trigger a crash on exit. Additionally, this release includes a number of non-regression bug fixes to various areas of the engine. was thus subject to this crash when baking lightmaps.
This new technique was developed entirely in the open and implemented under our MIT license, so anyone is welcome to use it in their own engines and games. SDFGI is something akin to a dynamic real-time lightmap (but it does not requiere unwrapping, nor does it use textures). What can it do? How do you use it?

Godot uses a considerably different approach to rendering (and rendering abstraction) than other, popular, gameengines. At the end of the day, the use case where Vulkan and DirectX12 make the most sense is when you have hundreds of thousands of objects, which are all different (different geometry, textures, etc.),
GLES2: Fix glow on devices with only 8 texture slots ( GH-42446 ). GLES2: Use separate texture unit for light_texture ( GH-42538 ). Rendering: Disable lights for objects with baked lighting ( GH-41629 ). GLES2: Various improvements to 2D batching ( GH-42119 ). MeshInstance: Add option for software skinning ( GH-40313 ).
To show the benefits of GDeflate, we measured system performance without compression, with standard CPU-side decompression, and with GPU-accelerated GDeflate decompression on a representative game-focused dataset, containing texture and geometry data. GDeflate is available as a standard GPU decompression option in DirectStorage 1.1—a

RTX Global Illumination (RTXGI) Leveraging the power of ray tracing, the RTX Global Illumination (RTXGI) SDK provides scalable solutions to compute multi-bounce indirect lighting without bake times, light leaks, or expensive per-frame costs. Unity has announced that DLSS will be natively supported in Unity Engine version 2021.2

Baked Lighting. Pre-computes lighting and stores it, making the game run faster but limiting changes in lighting. Lighting changes in the game as you play, making the environment more interactive. These are pre-made textures that store lighting info for objects that don’t move. Texture Compression.

It was reusing parts of the code for baking GIProbes, and that made it quick but not great in terms of quality. New CPU lightmapper. For Godot 4.0,
Instead of computing the amount of light that reaches a certain surface every frame for every light source, we precompute all this information and store it in a single texture. The process of generating light map texture coordinates takes a while, and it was being triggered on every scene reimport.
As the excuses he devised not to follow his passion faded, Anthony quit his full-time job to dedicate his efforts to exploring filmmaking within a gameengine. I found one beautiful high-poly model by Charles Woods on Sketchfab, but the textures were made to look a little too damaged for what I was looking for.

The new 3D engine is outstanding, with many features out-of-the-box that are still not common in other mainstream engines. The new 3D renderer is state-of-the-art, with features rarely see in gameengines today, such as: Full principled BSDF. Just set up the probe bounds and do a fast pre-bake of static objects.

Use baked lightmaps instead. is not a fallback but a different platform you should target your game for. GIProbes of course don't work.

Last but not least, lightmaps baking is now done using the GPU to speed up the process significantly. The new NavigationServer supports fully dynamic environments and on-the-fly navigation mesh baking. You should also notice a significant bump in textures import speed thanks to the etcpak library, and the new multi-threaded importer.
