Normally our Beta 1 release notes summarize all the most exciting changes from the previous dev releases. Game window embedding was implemented to support our recent interactive in-gameediting feature. Now you can easily run your game, override the game camera, and select objects in game, all from the editor!
Every beta release so far has included a lot of fixes in one or more key areas, and the next major version of the engine starts to finally look complete. Beta 10 will be the last dev snapshot of the year 2022, as a lot of our contributors will no doubt be slowing down for the end of year celebrations and some quality family time.

Is solving these problems enough for Godot to become a top AA / AAA gameengine? Godot, at its core, is and will always be (by design) a very general purpose gameengine. This mean that the tools provided, while certainly capable, are still game neutral. The answer is “it depends”.
In this introductory tutorial series, we’ll teach beginners how to use the basic controls within Gogot’s gameengine. Godot is a free and open source game development software that gamedevs can use to make beautiful 2D and 3D games. . A Crash Course Into The Basics of Godot’s GameEngine.

Edit: This was of course a joke for April Fools' Day 2016. After attending this year's GDC , we realized that Godot, though a good engine that we believe ready for the industry, is still hardly known by professional game developers. This should leave everyone happy since, after all, half the planet uses the same gameengine.

This version worked well but we felt it was still far from the usability and features of a modern gameengine. The more urgent issue was to improve the 2D engine so we worked hard again and released Godot 1.1, Previously, only the root node of a scene was editable. Multiple scene editing. Live scene editing.
SOVEREIGN MOON PRESENTS… GameEngine Showdown: Unity vs. Godot vs. Buildbox vs. Unreal Engine. In this gameengine faceoff, we’ll explore each gameengine’s visual scripting tools to see which engine is the best for beginner game makers and non-coders. .
The forum ( edit: now replaced by the Q&A ), IRC and Facebook are now full of life! is to focus on improving the 2D engine with all the feedback that we have gathered during the past months, improving shader support for 2D, visual shader editing (for 2D and 3D), and more draw options such as per-node z-priority.
There are many small tweaks and improvements that we would like to do to it but, as we gameengine developers are not experienced in the web side of the programming world, everything seems daunting to us (please don't laugh). All this is deployed automatically on each commit to the GitHub repo thanks to the ReadTheDocs hosting.
The existing animation system in Godot was already one of the most powerful of any gameengine, but its age was starting to show (it was written 10 years ago and barely improved). Animation editing was one of the first distinctive Godot features. Key editing in inspector. A bit of history.
GitHub has announced the 5 th edition of its Game Off game jam, hosted on itch.io The main feature of Game Off is its focus on free and open source tools for game development, and this is obviously something that we consider highly in the Godot Engine community, as a fully libre 2D and 3D gameengine.
Enthusiasts, hobbyists, and even some Unity users looking for an alterative to their gameengine! More importantly, we met people who are deeply involved into the game developpment community. Edit: We have seen many comments on our April Fool's joke. We strive to make the Godot community, and game development in general, a welcoming place for everyone. It doesn't look like the logo of a commercial gameengine. The Godette character was made years ago. It was not created for this joke.
