Just under 80 million PC and console games have been sold across Europe for the first six months of 2024, GSD data reveals. That's a unit sales drop of 1.6% over the start of 2023, which is a strong result considering the comparatively weaker release slate for the first half of this year compared with the year before. The first half of 2023 saw major releases including Hogwarts Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo IV and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Game artist Brett Jones, known for his work on GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, has died. David Doak shared the news on social media , accompanied by a screenshot of GoldenEye. "So much of what made GoldenEye and Perfect Dark special came from Brett's talent and rascal humour," he said in another post.

A new report has found that 82% of American gamers made an in-game purchase in freemium titles last year. That's according to Comscore's 2024 State of Gaming Report, published in partnership with in-game advertising platform Anzu. The report also found that 62% of adults over the age of 18 engaged in gaming, with millennials comprising 49% of the segment followed by Gen Z at 13%.

Electronic Arts is adding another level of monetisation to its flagship football series with a new Premium Tier of in-game rewards in EA Sports FC 25. As reported by VG247 , the new tier is in addition to the usual free tier of card packs, players and cosmetics that players unlock as they complete challenges in the game. Ubisoft has released its results for the first three months of the financial year, stating the quarter was "marked by strong session days of growth of 15 percent across consoles and PC, mostly driven by games-as-a-service" (GaaS). New Sweden-based studio Blue Scarab Entertainment has raised $7 million in a seed funding round led by NetEase and Behold Ventures. As reported by Eurogamer , the firm alleged the person had posted "excessive slanderous and insulting comments" online. After being granted the ability to obtain the individual's information by a court, Sega reached a settlement and the individual has been ordered to delete the posts.

Hello all, I have a shader that takes the alpha value of one texture and applies to a sprite frame. Basic masking functionality without using the mask component. I prefer to go this way so that I can have a gradient fade to transparency… the mask component uses the stencil buffer and isn’t set up to use alpha blending and therefore cannot utilize the gradient of alpha values.

Hi all! I need the game to check every N amount of time if the player is online. I could use the fetch() function for this. However, I found the sys.getNetworkType() function. I read that if it returns any type other than NONE, then it is the Internet. Is it so? How does it check it herself? Is it possible to subscribe to an event during a status change?
