"Pipeliness" Studios

The GameDev Guru

I still see this happen. "Pipeliness" studios many times I do consulting. In spite of having no pipelines of any kind, they still produce great games, engaging experiences, profitable apps. Only that they ship projects at a much higher cost than they could.

The problem with making games for Mobiles.

Half Geek

Star Nomad 2 was released in 2016 on Google Play & iOS. It was updated often during the first year, fixing bugs, adding features players requested. I’ve changed the UI, the flight systems, the AI, etc, to improve it based on feedback where possible. The last major update was in 2019. Google Android 9 & 10 in particular, broke code back compatibility, the game would crash, a pretty major flaw.

Perhaps you should take a look at the work of Damien Chazelle because there is no more musical director who is so precisely and sensitively able to synchronize melody and image. And we're not talking about the simple juxtaposition of music that is in every film - we're talking about something more sensual and aesthetic.

What does inflation mean for the games industry?

Gamesbrief

I’ve recently been asked to think about what rising inflation ( 8.2% in the UK in June; 9.1% over the last 12 months in the US) means for the video game industry. There are three areas to think about: the impact on prices the impact on costs the effect of the wider political and economic situation. My current TL/DR is that prices for consumers will go up, but not enough to offset the increase in development costs (salaries, energy, and to a lesser extent physical distribution).
