Kickstarter. The name alone evokes a lot of feelings in hopeful entrepreneurs and board gamers alike. Whether or not you’ve backed or started a campaign, you probably have an opinion about the site. Godot uses a considerably different approach to rendering (and rendering abstraction) than other, popular, game engines. The motivation behind it was not to achieve the maximum performance in extreme use cases, but accomodate better to most user's needs. Board games can be about all sorts of things. You can conquer nations, build cities, explore space, solve mysteries, and so much more. Games, at their core, might just be a series of mechanics and rules, but themes keep us from feeling like we’re playing out the logical conclusion of mathematical functions. Play-testing is so critical in board game development that I’ve dedicated several articles to the subject. Yet I’ve never seen article that deals with one of the biggest issues with play-testing: being able to tell the difference between signal and noise.
Patreon campaign. A little bit over a month ago we launched a Patreon campaign to improve our funding. The first goal, which is allowing me to work full time on the project, has been just met, which is amazing!! Thanks to everyone who helped and contributed, your support is heart-warming and goes far beyond what we imagined! This story starts exactly like the last great mission I had in an XCOM game : I kinda took on two missions at once. And everyone got tired from the first one, so we had to send our B-team on the other: to rescue a VIP. – Part 1: The Fight. Almost immediately, they run into our first ever Sectopod – a giant, insanely tough walker. Everyone focused on it, and we got it down low.
Update: one month later. After 5 docs sprints, the class reference went up from 35% to 60% complete ! Heat Signature will be out on Steam 21st of September 2017 ! At time of writing, that’s Thursday of next week. It’s for Windows PCs, other platforms will depend on how this one goes. We don’t do pre-order bonuses because I don’t want to pressure you to buy before reviews are out. But I am super grateful to those who buy at launch, because our whole future depends on how we do that first week.
I reshuffled this post a bit so I can link this part more easily: Update On The Everything Gun. It’s been great to see how much people are loving this very silly weapon , and how excited people are to send us shots of them finding it. One thing I didn’t forsee was that for a small number of people, it could cause anxiety: the fear of missing out, or even when they have it, the fear of somehow losing it.
