There was no E3 – but Microsoft won it anyway | Opinion

GamesIndustry.biz

There is at least one long-standing E3 tradition that has now outlived E3 itself: the picking of winners and losers from the event. This is a distributed, largely subjective process of judgment and evaluation which has on some occasions been quite spurious and misguided, but at other times has genuinely set the tone for the competitive landscape of the year to come.

Which Xbox and Summer Game Fest games grabbed the most headlines?

GamesIndustry.biz

It was quite the week for the games industry with not one, not two, but… well many live shows and events occurring last week with more still to come later this month. Arguably two of the biggest were Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which aired on Friday, and the Xbox Games Showcase, which went live on Sunday – both promising big announcements and fresh looks at upcoming software.

Coding Camp Chronicles: How Kids Can Spend Their Summer Productively Behind Screens

Real Programming

Most people have heard the phrase “screen time” before, as it’s become a cautionary expression. The basic idea is simple: the movies and games we see on screens can be addictive, and if you’re not careful, they can suck you in and consume much of your life. Adults need to watch themselves, but the thinking goes, it’s even more important for kids. RP4K would never advise against kids playing outdoors in the summer!

Lego Horizon Adventures shows even PlayStation knows growth lies beyond your own platform | Opinion

GamesIndustry.biz

The unveiling of Lego Horizon Adventures was not a surprise. As is often the case around major debuts, hints and details had leaked out in the days before. What was surprising, however, was that not only is the game coming to PlayStation 5 and PC (as expected), but it is also coming to Nintendo Switch. Let's take a moment to process that: a PlayStation-owned IP on a Nintendo platform.

Mock reviews and game evaluations: what are they, and why are they useful for devs?

GamesIndustry.biz

Mock reviews are a widespread practice within the games industry, yet due to the secretive nature of the work involved, they remain an under-discussed branch of the feedback process – particularly in comparison to fields such as QA and player testing. With most mock reviews and game evaluations written under heavy NDA, it's perhaps unsurprising that we hear little about this line of work.

It was a bold choice to ship this game with only one romance option. I wanted to write a third and final article about Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3 for short), a really great game that most people have moved on from, but I want to talk about the most important part of any RPG: LOOT. Treasure is the main driving factors of RPGs. The reward. The dopamine rush.

Vampire survival game V Rising emerged from Early Access and swooped to the top of the charts in the UK during May. The PC game received strong reviews upon release, with a PS5 version due in June 11. The last week in LA was pretty good. I enjoyed it, at least.
