In the wake of GDC earlier this year, several reports emerged on social media and in various games publications detailing incidents of sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and discrimination experienced by attendees. These reports ranged from inappropriate comments and advances, to physical assaults and drink spiking. It has been alleged that these had been perpetrated by both fellow attendees and industry professionals.

The Entertainment Software Association has shut down speculation that E3 2024 and 2025 have been cancelled. A post on ResetEra yesterday shared an update from the Los Angeles Tourism Board of Commissioners projecting future sales results based on the cancellations of the next two iterations of the long-running trade show. GamesIndustry.biz reached out to the ESA for clarification, and a spokesperson told us the trade body is "currently having conversations about E3 2024 (and beyond).

As shared by Australian games trade body IGEA , the bill passed through legislation today, having been approved by both Houses of Parliament. Initially unveiled in 2021 , the DGTO provides a 30% tax incentive to Australian studios with projects above AU$500,000. It will have a retrospective effect from July 1, 2022.

In my view, one of the best games of last year was by Ubisoft. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is a wonderful strategy game, and I'd picked it to be a breakout hit. Its predecessor had exceeded ten million players, it was the Mario game of Christmas, and its only real competition was Pokémon, which was arriving a month later. It didn't quite work out that way.

€300,000 has been invested for the creation of a new gaming hub in Senegal. The investment is the result of a partnership between the French Embassy in Senegal and game studio Masseka. The funding will go towards the creation of a "hybrid project," the announcement said, which will be both an incubator and a development studio, with the aim "to boost the gaming industry and make Senegal a hub in West Africa.
